Pieter Brueghel (sometimes spelled Bruegel) wanted to capture in one painting all the children's games he knew. Most of the games he showed have been identified. As you look around, notice how few toys are involved. This was painted in the 1500's and kids had to make fun with simple things: sticks, hats, hoops, and the like.
How are things different in our time? Move your mouse over the painting to see how I've updated it to show all the games children play today. To see the central child more clearly, click and hold your mouse on him. My, how things have changed. |
