with Bruce Van Patter 2003-2004 School Visits

My visit to Cochran Elementary!

As I got out of my car at this Williamsport school, the frigid morning air took my breath away. Cold as it was outside, my welcome inside was warm. And as I worked with the kids, I was really impressed with their cool ideas!

The first assembly gave me the parts for an alligator trying to out-trick a tiger who loves to play pranks on the other animals.

The second assembly thought of a princess cat at the beauty parlor, but her butler has to try to do her hair! Disaster!

Kindergarten fun!

I love kindergarten. It's such a fun place. And the kids and I just really get good stories going. Our stories were about a bear who loses her cub and a scaredy cat who goes to a carnival. Thanks for your help, guys!

Great stories are always just a brainstorm away.

Kids, when you think about our time together, I hope you'll remember how much fun it was to come up with ideas. Your stories are really cool! Don't let them just gather dust in your brains. Get them out. Put them down. Share them with others!

Be creative!

Workshops brimming with ideas!

Hey, if you're going to be a dragon, why not be a pizza chef? I mean, you've got built in flame! In this story, our dragon has his prize pizza stolen by a jester out to impress the king. See below how he finally made the king laugh. Sure made me laugh!
Then in the second (and sadly, last) workshop of the day, fifth grade came up with a guy who enters a dog-yelling contest. I think the ad slogan for it should be: "Want the collar, gotta holler!" That's the only way to bring in the strays.

Anyway, the edge that he has over each of the other contestants is that he actually took the time to learn each dog's name! Smart thinking!

And a personal thanks to my "Vanna White" of the one workshop. I rarely have someone so eager and ready to be as goofy as me!
