Let's get creative and write stories!

It's what kids need right now. State standards expect children to be able to write narrative stories. But the standards can't tell a student how to write creatively. Standards simply tell how far a child must go on his trip toward writing proficiency; they can't start his engine. Kids need help to channel their imaginative ability into writing coherent stories.

And being creative is what kids want right now. Everywhere I go, I meet children who jump at the chance to imagine, who are willing to be drawn into brainstorming that produces fresh, funny, fantastic stories. If they see that creating stories is fun, they're ready for the ride!

That’s why I’ve developed this assembly program with following workshops – a whole day focusing on the creative process and how it connects to story-writing. It's unlike any other author and illustrator visit. This is a day your school won't soon forget!

Here’s what you get when I come to your school:

  1. a fun, multi-media assembly program (can be shown twice) including a colorful slide show of original art outlining the creative process. The assembly is roughly an hour long. Its purpose is to show kids how exciting their ideas can be. I have videos you can watch that summarize the content of the slide shows.
  2. Creative writing workshops follow the assemblies. These fun, grade-level brainstorming workshops get the kids started in constructing stories based on their own ideas. I can do up to three of these sessions in the course of the day.

Most of all, what you get when I come is motivated students. Kids will be eager to get their ideas down on paper. They’ll be ready to try their creative wings.

How can I be sure?

After working with over 100,000 students, I've honed this program to make it as kid-friendly and entertaining as possible, and still be packed with educational value. Every school I’ve visited has given me glowing reviews. Time and time again, teachers have told me after my visit that their students wanted to jump right into writing and drawing as soon as they got back to the classroom.

Why not inspire your kids to write creatively?

"Let's Get Creative!" Narrative Writing is more than just an assembly. It's an entire day that will energize your students to invent and write stories in a whole new way.
