My visit to Point Road School

After a long, hard drive through a Pocono snow storm (in October??), this was a fun school to visit. Point Road kids were excited about sharing their ideas.

The assembly drawings

Check out these stories:

The four ingredients: a frog in wetlands who wants a diamond up against a furious wolf

The story: a frog sits on his lilypad and sees a beautiful "diamond" in the water. What he doesn't realize is that it's the refleciton of the moon. He also doesn't know that he's being watched by a hungry wolf who'd love to have frog legs for dinner!

But right when the wolf is about to grab him, the frog jumps to grab the "diamond." Splash! That will scare that wolf away!

The four ingredients: a skeleton in a donut shop looking for coffee up against a human flame

The story: our hero is a truck driver who was turned into a skeleton when he drank a cup of magical coffee. He's been trying to find a way to drink it again in hopes that it will change him back. So he's come to Volcano Joe's the home of the Lava Java.

What he doesn't realize is that Joe hopes to keep our hero a skeleton forever by making him eat a magic donut!

Why? I have no idea. I'll leave that up to you!

The workshop stories

A cowboy finds a magical star in a mine on his father's ranch. The star gives him powers -- he's able to train a pig to be his steed.

But the star actually belongs to a race of cactus aliens who want it back.

They kidnap a girl who's a friend of the boy's in order to get back their star. He rescues her, but the chase is on!

(Kids thought my alien looked like a hairy pickle!)

Here's a girl who is trying to solve the mystery of a missing ring on the playground. Her friend borrowed her mom's ring but has lost it. Our detective girl sees a bully burying something in the wood chips, so suspects him.

But when she finally gets to dig up the spot, she just finds a weird sandwich!

Who took the ring?

A dog that's been hanging out around the school yard. Our hero will have to overcome her fear of dogs to get the ring back!

And finally, this is a boy whose father is the baker in a castle. The boy has learned to do an amazing thing: when you open one of his muffins, the steam makes pictures!

Then, his very best muffin -- one that could create a steam dragon -- is missing right before it was to be served to the king.

Who took it? The boy quickly bakes a new muffin which shows him that a jealous pie man from the town has the dragon muffin.

I loved the word "Mysteamius," given to me by a very creative boy in the front of the brainstorming group. Excellent!

What a fun day! I hope all you Point Road kids enjoyed it as much as I did. You have wonderful story ideas. I hope you'll put those ideas down on paper and share them with others.

Keep being creative, and check out the fun stuff on my site!

After the one assembly, a student came up with three of his paintings. They were amazing! I rarely see kids who paint. And these showed real talent. I just wish the flash hadn't gone off in the picture.
